It was one of the sensational end-of-market soap operas as far as Italy is concerned, the story of Kevin Danso’s failed move from Lens to Romaa transfer that fell through after the Austrian central defender underwent the ritual medical tests with the Roman club wearing the Giallorossi shirt.
An issue that has sparked reactions and caused some to target the management of the situation by the Giallorossi clubwith related accusations from Lens of “having interpreted the medical tests”. Yet perhaps a bit of reason lay with Rome, considering that Danso was excluded by his coach Ralf Rangnick from the list of players called up for the upcoming commitments of the Austrian national team, after having been initially included. The reason, we read in the federation’s note: “Danso will undergo thorough medical tests at his club in France”.
Lens, immediately after the failed transfer, had taken this position via official note: “Kevin Danso remains at Lens, negotiations with Roma have broken off after reaching an agreement. Danso will not join them. The lengthy interpretation of a medical examination was the cause of this interrupted transfer. The club is now questioning the underlying reasons for the failure to validate this move for a player who has been carefully monitored and who has played in seasons with more than 30 games both on French and international pitches. We remain fully confident in our defensive pillar, we will be happy to subject him to an appropriate protocol before having him wear our colours again”.
