Last May, Nicklas Sule, like everyone at Borussia Dortmund, was living a dream. Champions League final in London against Real Madrid and the possibility of becoming European champions, after having eliminated Atletico Madrid in the quarterfinals and Paris Saint Germain in the semifinals. In the middle of the month, however, some photos of the German defender were published, clearly overweight, just under two weeks before the appointment with Wembley.
It was something that had already happened in my time with Bayern Munich.. An additional obstacle to being in shape, considering that in 2014 and 2019 he had undergone two operations on his cruciate ligament that had left him out for a long period of time. The same technical director of Borussia had had a conversation with Sule himself, in January, to try to anticipate the possible worsening of the problem that was then documented by the photos before the Champions League final.
No final as a protagonist, but only on the bench, but above all no European Championship in Germany. So much so that Sule has lost a lot of weight in his summer, presenting himself at his best for his return. Always a starter in the first three games of the season, it seems like a good way to leave all the weight issues behind him. Today Nicklas Sule turns 29.
