Chelsea, Maresca disappointed by the draw: “We completely deserved the victory”

Chelsea have many regrets after the 1-1 draw against Crystal Palace. Enzo Maresca in the press conference he was disappointed for a victory that went up in smoke: “We completely deserved to win the match. We had chances, we controlled the game, we didn’t concede anything. In the first half, they only had a shot on goal with Wharton. The performance was very good but unfortunately we didn’t collect the three points”.

Should Will Hughes have been sent off?
“We were leading 1-0, there was probably a second yellow card and the game would have changed. The reaction of their bench was to change it immediately and I think that says it all, but the referee saw it differently, so I have nothing to say.”

Are you worried about the goals conceded?
“I’m always worried, no matter if the goal remains intact or not. I like to analyze the game: we conceded the goal but we didn’t give away any other chances. So it’s not a defensive problem, but we have to solve some aspects. For sure, we have to do many things better. Robert Sanchez couldn’t do anything about that fantastic goal.”

Is there faith in Jackson? Chelsea were linked with Osimhen and Toney in the summer…
“I have faith, and so does the club. We are looking for another striker but we trust Nicolas. I said it last week, when the transfer window was still open: he is doing great with us. I am very happy with him.”

Did you hire Jadon Sancho to solve games like this?
“Jadon is here because we like that type of player, especially in the last half hour against low blocks like today. When you face a team like that you can say that we need players like that, even if we had five, six or seven clear chances.”
