Massimo Maestrelli, son of the legendary coach of Lazio’s first Scudetto, Tommaso, gave an interview to today’s edition of The Republic, to talk about the recent passing of Sven-Goran Erikssonin which he also commented on the idea of naming the stadium after him, perhaps in conjunction with his father’s name. Here are his words: “I remember that Sarri had launched the idea of naming the Lazio stadium after my father: if that were really the case, if this project were to become concrete, it would be a pleasure for me to see Eriksson’s name alongside Tommaso’s.”
Then there was an anecdote about Eriksson himself: “Sven, like my father, was a great man. My brother Maurizio and I met him only once, one evening at an event. He was surrounded by many people, we saw him but didn’t take a step out of respect and politeness, it was the coach who approached us, smiled at us: he put his hand on his heart and with great emotion he shook our hands and hugged us. This is the only sweet memory I have of Eriksson”.
