Tonali can smile: he will return to Newcastle in August once the proceedings are concluded

Sandro Tonali can smile: he will be able to return to the pitch with Newcastle in August. This is because the Football Association has decided to impose a fine of 20 thousand pounds – approximately 23 thousand euros – plus a two-month absence from the pitch. A situation that reinforces (and not adds to) the stop that had already been in place for ten months and which, in fact, would have ended in the summer. On the other hand, Newcastle themselves had had discussions with the FA and were quite optimistic about the lack of further suspensions.

Tonali was accused of having played around fifty Premier League matches between August and October. In the past months, however, Tonali had admitted and provided information in this regard.

This was the FA statement at the end of March. “Sandro Tonali has been charged with misconduct in relation to alleged breaches of the FA’s betting rules. The Newcastle United midfielder is alleged to have breached FA Rule E8 50 times by betting on football matches between 12 August 2023 and 12 October 2023. Sandro Tonali has until 5 April 2024 to respond.” After admitting the fact, the FA imposed a two-month ban.

Now the proceedings are concluded and therefore there will be no news or surprises.
