Official

There Irish Football Association extended the mandate of John O’Shea as interim coach of the men’s national team also for the two friendly matches in June against Hungary and Portugal. His assistants Paddy McCarthy and Glenn Whelan and goalkeeping coach Rene Gilmartin have also been confirmed. Technical advisor Brian Kerr will not join the team for the June friendlies due to prior commitments.

John O’Shea commented on the news: “I’m looking forward to continuing as interim manager for two big games in June against Hungary and Portugal. Both games represent big challenges, but I was really happy with what I saw from the players in both the games in March and we’ll try to build on some of those positives in June, but also get that win that I thought he deserved before I’ve been in contact with Marc Canham since the March games and last week he asked me to step in again and, how I said before, it’s always an honor to represent our country, so happy to continue as interim head coach for June Work will start straight away, also good to confirm that the technical and performance team will remain for the June games, which is excellent for continuity with the players and staff.”
