Roma ponders Dybala: on the bench against Everton, offer from Saudi Arabia for the Joya

With just a few days to go until the start of the championship, Roma finds itself reflecting on the future of its star player, Paulo Dybala. Although the proposal from Saudi Arabia is not yet officially on the table, it could still be tempting for the Friedkins, owners of the club. Roma needs to complete the squad with at least two new starters, and the sale of Dybala, who arrived on a free transfer and whose contract expires in 2025, would represent an opportunity to make a significant capital gain and reduce the salary bill.

The situation is paradoxical, especially considering that until a few days ago no one would have imagined such a scenario. During the last summer test against Everton, coach De Rossi excluded Dybala from the starting lineup, a decision that raised many questions. Roma fielded a team composed almost entirely of players who will start the championship, with the exception of Dybala, who remained on the bench. In his place, Zalewski was preferred, whose contract is expiring and who could leave the club by August.

Despite continuing to train hard, as demonstrated by the brace he scored in a recent practice match against Ostiamare, Dybala does not hide a certain disappointment. Although he knows he is not unsellable, he did not expect to have to consider a transfer just a few days before the start of the season. If he had wanted to leave for the Saudi League, he could have done so in recent months. Now, however, the possibility of leaving Roma seems more concrete, especially after trying to convince Soulé to join him in the capital, a possibility that could unexpectedly fade away.
