Buffon and the future: “Maybe sporting director, perhaps manager. I will certainly be operational”

Many topics covered by Gigi Buffon during his long interview with the Republic. The former captain of Juventus and the national team explained his new life without playing football, also touching on the topic linked to his future after the present tells of a role as head of delegation for Luciano Spalletti’s Italy in view of Euro 2024 This is Buffon’s thought:

Buffon, how did you experience this first year without football?
“I lived it well, it was how I imagined it. The gaps you encounter after having had a life with a deadline for thirty years, you have to try to fill them in the most profitable way possible. And I think I did it very well.”

Is there anything about yourself that you have discovered this year?
“No, for me the post-football period is manifesting itself with enthusiasm that I imagined and sometimes with melancholy. They are inevitable, after the years I have lived. We must not abjure our past: it must be remembered, it is something important. But the truth is that the projection must always be positive, on the present and future”.

And how do you see the future?
“Shall we say as sporting director? Manager? I’ll put the question mark, again. But still up to the task in the things I like. I certainly want to be operational, I don’t like being passive.”
