The Villarreal CF celebrated the presentation ceremony of Diego Conde And Pope Gueye as new Groguets players. The two Submarino signings – as reported by the club’s official website – appeared in the press room of the Estadio de la Cerámica, accompanied by the entity’s sports director, Miguel Ángel Tena.
Before saying their first words as new Groguets players, Miguel Ángel Tena welcomed them to their new club and thanked them for their commitment to Villarreal CF. “They are two players that we were clear about bringing to the club. They are coming to make the team more competitive,” he noted.
He also justified the arrival of both talents: “Pape was a fantastic market opportunity. We know his potential and what he is capable of giving us. Marcelino also knows him from his time at Marseille. For his part, Diego is a great goalkeeper. “He was Zamora in the Second Division with CD Leganés.”
Pape Gueye, who made an effort to speak Spanish, was very grateful and ambitious with his arrival at Villarreal CF: “It is a great opportunity for me and I want to thank the club. I want to do great things here. I know LALIGA because I played for Sevilla for six months. My goal is to help the team and give my best.”
As for aspirations, the French-Senegalese midfielder indicated that everyone’s goal is to return to European competitions: “We have great players and we want to aspire to enter European competitions. That’s the club’s goal. We want to finish the season with a better result than this year. We’ve all scored it in the team. I would like to play in the Champions League or Europa League with Villarreal.
He was also happy to return to the command of Marcelino, whom he already knows from OM: “He is a great coach. He knows my qualities. He knows what kind of player I am. This is an opportunity for me. I want to progress, I feel young and eager. “I want to learn from the new colleagues we have and everything is very positive”.
Like his new teammate, Diego Conde had words of gratitude for Villarreal and its directors and promised performances to match the club’s commitment: “I know they have made an investment in me. I want to thank you for betting on me. I want to thank you with performance and work. “I want to recover the European positions and I am eager to show my performances and contribute as much as possible.”
Likewise, he acknowledged that it was clear to him to come to Villarreal when the opportunity presented itself: “I hadn’t thought about it. I know this great club and the project it has, which is in line with my aspirations. I have already been able to get to know the club from the inside. It’s a step forward in my career. I couldn’t let this opportunity slip away, which is important to me after a great season. Now I have to respond with performance. “That’s why I came here.”
In defining himself as a player, Condé emphasized his qualities: “I am a hard-working professional. I am an offensive goalkeeper, who likes to participate in the game. He tries to improve by becoming a better goalkeeper every day. “I am a competitive professional.”
