Jerome Rothenformer footballer of Paris Saint-Germain now a television commentator, has joined the list of many, among commentators and insiders, who have attacked Didier Deschamps after France’s elimination from Euro 2024.
Here are his words from the studios of RMC Sports: “It’s his failure, he’s the main person responsible for not winning the European Championship. Didier is necessarily responsible for what happened, for the fiasco on the pitch, because it hurts to see a team so out of control, with so much technical waste. His failure is there for all to see.”
According to Rothen, some elements in the communication management are an aggravating factor for the coach: “He is first and foremost an athlete. When he wins, he hides behind the victory and that’s right. But when you lose, he has to take responsibility. And I have the impression that he had difficulty doing so. He held back throughout the competition, and that’s not like him. He dwelt on criticism, he alienated experienced players like Olivier Giroud or Antoine Griezmann. And the latest failure is his construction of the group: for me, when you choose the players, you know what to expect from them. There was a lack of creativity in midfield and he is the one who created this group, we were caught out by our technical shortcomings”.
