‘Arena is impossible’. Even Rome lacks a stadium for Serie C
(ANSA) – MILAN, JULY 10 – “We have the possibility of working on the space, a stadium in Milan, only that we need to invest a bit. Alcione knows this, it is conceivable that in the first phase it cannot be in the city, but I really care that it can be in Milan, so we are looking at this dossier”. This was said by the mayor of Milan Giuseppe Sala on the sidelines of the event ‘The glocal role of institutional and functional subjects in the development of the territory’ at the Meet Digital Culture Center on the possibility that the team newly promoted to Serie C also has its own stadium in Milan. A problem that all the Roman teams in the capital also have, like Trastevere, Ostiamare or others, that aspire to go to Serie C, where however they would then be forced to ’emigrate’ due to the lack of a facility (even in the province) approved for the third series, apart from the Olimpico. And the same fate would befall Roma if they also decided to form a second team.
At present, Alcione, in the absence of alternatives and with all the stadiums in Lombardy occupied, could play in Fiorenzuola, in the province of Piacenza and therefore in Emilia. This is certainly not new for Serie C, because also in the coming season Sorrento will have to play their home games in Potenza, while Monterosi, a club from Viterbo that was relegated to Serie D in May, had to go all the way to Tuscany, to Pontedera. Serie C in only one other province for Juve Next Gen, which plays ‘at home’ at the Giuseppe Moccagatta stadium in Spalto Rovereto (Alessandria). “As for the Arena hypothesis, however, it is not possible, it is too central” and for years it has been a place “dedicated to children, families, many sports” and therefore, Sala concluded, “we continue on the path that Councilor Riva indicated to Gratosoglio”, with the possible adaptation of the Carraro sports center.
