Spain-Germany, 300,000 signatures on the petition against Taylor: what the Germans are asking for

A group of German fans have launched an online petition to Anthony Taylor no longer referees in any UEFA competition and for the quarter-final between Spain and Germany to be replayed, in which a penalty was not awarded to Julian Nagelsmann’s national team due to a handball by Cucurella during extra time, before Mikel Merino’s goal which allowed the Spanish team to eliminate the Teutonic team.

On the platform chance.org, over 300,000 signatures were collected in a short time. German supporters are also calling for a UEFA investigation into the impartiality of the English referee. “Euro 2024 quarter-finals: Germany vs Spain. Anthony Taylor refereed the match. But obviously unfairly!”, reads the text of the petition.

“After a clear handball by Marc Cucurella (a player from the Spanish team) in the penalty area (with an outstretched hand), Germany were not awarded the penalty they clearly deserved, which could have tipped the match in their favor. And that’s not all! Taylor has already been criticized by another referee for favors to Spain. We demand that UEFA replay the match, investigate Taylor’s lack of neutrality and punish him!”, it continues.
