Detained and without a team for a few days: Spartak releases Quincy Promes

Official

Sentenced to six years in prison in the Netherlands for cocaine trafficking and arrested in early April during a border check in Dubai for Quincy Promes the problems are not over yet. Spartak Moscow has in fact decided not to renew his contract and therefore for a few days the Dutch striker has officially been without a team.

This is the statement from the Russian club: “Quincy Promes completely missed the second part of the season due to personal reasons that did not allow him to return to Russia after the winter training camp in the United Arab Emirates. Unfortunately, these circumstances still apply and Quincy’s return is not possible at the moment. At the same time, our club hopes that in the future their paths will cross again.

Promes played for the Red and White team from 2014 to 2018, before returning to Spartak in 2021. The Dutchman became one of the main heroes in the championship victory in 2016/17 and scored the winning goal in the Russian Super Cup final in 2017. Five years later, he also scored the decisive goal in the Russian Cup final against Dynamo in Luzhniki. In total, Quincy played 235 matches for our team, in which he scored 114 goals – this is now the sixth result in the club’s history.”
