Two days after the semi-final of EURO 2024 against France, the coach of the Spain, Louis of the Fountaingave an interview to the Spanish newspaper SPORT to tell what the internal mood of the national team is, of its Red Furies and the bond that was born between everyone: “We are a family here and it’s like in a normal house. There are days with more laughter and others with less. There are sad moments, like Pedri’s injury. The team has suffered a lot, but overcoming it helps to strengthen this group that is a rock… We are a family and I am proud to see people so committed”.
The other day you won the quarter-finals against Germany and you celebrated the victory in great style, even though you suffered a lot.
“I don’t understand work without suffering, it’s not a bad thing, it’s a natural thing. If you want to achieve something you have to work hard and suffer a lot. There are demands, difficulties to overcome. And I see it as a normal thing. I don’t understand achievement without suffering. Nothing in life is easy.”
It seems that what has really taken root in the players is the idea of prioritizing the team above all else.
“The reading and reflections we always make is that the team wins, there are no individuals. You have to put your talent at the service of the team, because that way you will reap a greater reward. We want to continue to transmit this message and this happened the other day against Germany, against Croatia or against Italy. We live it in every intimate moment of the dressing room, where you see people giving their all. Or in the camaraderie in training. It is not an isolated thing, it is something that must be worked on and the players are developing it in every minute of every game”.
