Switzerland, Yakin: “We don’t deserve to go home. I’m sad for the whole nation”

Murat Yakintechnical commissioner of the Swissspoke at a press conference after the defeat on penalties against England in the quarter-finals of EURO 2024: “This elimination hurts, I’m sad for the whole nation and for my boys. England didn’t have many chances, while we created quite a few: we don’t deserve to go home, but we can be really proud. Penalties are a question of luck and we didn’t have any, we’re leaving with our heads held high because we created a lot of problems for the big teams. In addition to the good matches we played, we must also be satisfied with many other aspects linked to our participation in the European Championship. We managed to make our fans who followed us here in Germany happy”.

On the penalty missed by Akanji: “There are no words of comfort. I thanked him for the performance and for his leadership, there is sadness for how it ended but we have to hold on. We are still proud because we had a successful European Championship: we dreamed and shared beautiful moments all together”.
