Not much turnover today, did you think that Torino approached the match that way?
“Yes, it was probably also right to concede to the players who played the most during the season, apart from the forced defections, and I think the public expected it too. Torino played a very serious match, a complicated team as demonstrated by the fact that we only took the lead after the sending off.”
Was Calhanoglu the director born as an emergency solution?
“Let’s say it’s a bit of the evolution of football, Calha is a total player and this has been tried before. It was a valid solution, until last year we had a starter in the role. The qualities of Calhanoglu were seen, he wanted to learn the things he didn’t know. Everyone recognizes the goals and the striking passes, but Calha was a good wall in front of the defence.”
Pioli said that Inter were always the strongest team and that compliments are easy when you win.
“I think it’s already been answered. We achieved a lot of results, Stefano did his job and he’s a friend: we played together and he did a great job. Now let’s think about enjoying this Inter.”
You are Milanese and an Inter fan, you had the task of bringing Interism into the locker room.
“It’s a 100 percent Inter locker room, it’s not so much the matter of the support that makes you enjoy and suffer in a particular way. But we lost important players, everyone knows that, but we found ourselves with a group of fantastic guys with whom It was a pleasure to work. This year it was always a pleasure to go to work at the sports center, we often met before training.”
What do you think was the turning point of the championship?
“Let’s say it’s not a match in itself. When we went to Riyadh, we were worried about having to play a match, then we did well to play the final and win a trophy. In those two matches there was the risk of going below in the standings, then we went to Florence without two important players and that too was a turning point. The team played an amazing game and at the end of that cycle we had the decisive momentum.”
Have you created a model on a technical and tactical level?
“I would say that the cycle is open, it is clear that this championship is a stamp that also enhances previous years. The club has always been close to us and the coach has kept the helm straight even in difficult moments. This year it repays us, we have found the right cohesion with the boys and we are convinced there is the possibility of carrying out something great.”
Can Sanchez still play at the highest level?
“No doubt. It’s funny to talk about him, his career speaks for him. But before the player comes the man: Alexis is a fantastic guy who was able to give advice to the younger guys. He draws football, it’s fun to work with him : I don’t know what the future will be, but if he were to stay with us he would certainly do well.”
