Altafini: “Italy is fearful of Spain. I like Scamacca, he is criticized too much”

After the comeback victory on their debut against Albania, theItaly lost badly in the second match of the European Championship against Spain. A sudden stop for the Azzurri, who still don’t have the pass to the round of 16 – to be won this evening against Croatia – and who have lost certainties due to the football lesson taken by the Red Furies.

In an interview granted to La Gazzetta dello Sport, José Altafini – among the first and most famous natives in the history of the national team, having also played for Brazil – spoke about Spalletti’s team, returning to the bad defeat against De la Fuente’s boys: “Clear impression: Italy has entered field with a bit of fear of Spain, fearful. He thought it was even stronger than it actually is. Wrong passes, little control of the game, they almost seemed like beginners: too worried.”

And we have practically never seen it in attack.
“I like Scamacca, especially technically. Too criticized, as they do with Lukaku: attackers who support the game, accompany it, but if the team doesn’t have the slightest control of the midfield, doesn’t create opportunities, the center forward is penalized. It was Scamacca’s fault if the team didn’t play calmly.”
