Political crisis in France, Domenech cites Goebbels: storm on social media, the former coach defends himself

New slip by Raymond Domenech. The former France coach ended up in the crosshairs of criticism after quoting Joseph Goebbels at a very delicate moment for his country, which is going through a serious political crisis. A week before the early elections following the dissolution of the National Assembly by President Emmanuel Macron, some players were invited to express their thoughts and Domenech also did not want to shy away.

Too bad, though, that his post on X (the former Twitter is decidedly out of place: “We attribute to the name of Joseph Goebbels this phrase which runs through history: ‘A lie told once remains a lie, a thousand times it becomes the truth’. I like to remember it.”

Goebbels was one of the most powerful and influential hierarchs of Adolf Hitler’s Third Reich, Minister of Popular Education and Propaganda of the Reich for more than 12 years. Domenech, with this bold quote, attracted the ire of other users who did not understand what direct connection there is between the current French political situation and the Nazi regime. The coach defended himself by trying to nip any controversy in the bud: “To make it clear to those who begin to imagine that I could be a fan of Goebbels, I say that it is his phrase that counts and that it echoes what is happening in these days in our country”.
