Paolo VanoliVenezia coach, spoke to the microphones of Sky after the victory on the Palermo field in the first leg semi-final of the Serie B Playoffs: “It was a tough match, in front of a huge crowd. Let’s keep our feet on the ground, Palermo is a great team and will do everything to put us in difficulty on the return leg. We have a great advantage: we are playing at our home ground.”
Pierini?
“I’m happy for Pierini, he’s a boy who has important skills and I’ve always believed in him. I don’t like it when we slow down the pace, we’re not a team capable of managing the ball in our half of the pitch. We need to be better at dribbling in the opposing half of the pitch. I congratulate the team because it wasn’t easy.”
Why did you start being a first coach so late?
“I did a very nice thing called apprenticeship. I had the opportunity and the pleasure of doing it in the national team, then I had the opportunity to be with a great coach (Conte, ed.). It wasn’t a waste of time. Now I look to the future with serenity. My future is here, for a beautiful dream. I hope to make my fans dream.”
What do you have to fear when returning?
“We have to pay attention to ourselves, as happened to us in this championship where we made some mistakes. This semi-final is still open, we have to be good at going onto the field with the right head, with the desire to win. We have the top scorer of the championship, we scored more than everyone else. Maybe we conceded a few too many goals which prevented us from direct promotion.”
Is your future linked to promotion to Serie A?
“My future is the next match. I’m focused on this. We’ve been working hard for a year and a half, we don’t want to miss this opportunity.”
