Vincenzo Italiano did it again: third cup final won on the five participations between national field and European competitions in the three years in which he coaches Fiorentina, on five total participations. A not bad score, that of the Karlsruhe coach, who deserves the right conclusion with the spark that has yet to be found: the victory of a trophy. The occasion will be May 29th in Athens, against Olympiacos for whom the home match (yes, but on the pitch of historic rivals AEK) can take on both heavenly and infernal traits. Problems of the Greeks, Italiano will think, for him and Fiorentina (without success for more than twenty years) would be history.
And it would also be the ideal way to say goodbye to Fiorentina, despite seeing the automatic renewal until 2025 triggered by the eventual victory of the Conference. A question of words given, in case it will have to be the person directly involved who makes it known that he has changed his mind. The usual shadow of Napoli has been looming over his future for weeks, but it seems to have veered towards other profiles (after the attack on Conte the attack on Gasperini took place), but it’s not just the blue. Bologna, uncertain about the fate of Thiago Motta, and Torino who will part ways with Juric are also observing the progress with interest.
For the succession of Italiano, anything but trivial, the name of Alberto Aquilani continues to resist. His first “grown-up” season at Pisa ended without playoffs, the Nerazzurri club seems even more convinced than its fans in wanting to keep him. The feeling, however, is that the last word has not yet been written.
