Guardiola on Haaland’s maxi renewal
He could not fail to be aware of the great news regarding the renewal of the contract until 2034 Erling Haaland al Manchester City. Speaking at a press conference two days before the match against Ipswich, Pep Guardiola in fact reserved special words for the Norwegian center forward and the choice made: “It’s exceptional news for all of us at the club. When a player decides to sign a contract like that, it’s because he wants to show how much he wants to be here.”
Explaining why Haaland was linked to City for 10 years: “It’s the club’s trust in Erling. The club knows perfectly well how professional he is. His commitment every day and in every match to show his talent. And on his part, because in ten years we never know what will happen, it’s a long term. Always in a short career, what has to happen… happens. He has shown what he wanted. And I think he loves the club, the people around him, he loves being here and I think he visualized that there’s no better place he could be in this moment or in the next ten years, I would say.”
On the margins of growth, Haaland being born in 2000 and the background on a key moment: “He’s still young and I’m pretty sure he’ll mature as he plays game after game, and that will happen naturally. I think he talked to me when it was all done and we complimented each other afterwards.”
Finally a closure on the relationship between them: “He’s making me a better coach and our staff a better team, that’s for sure. He’s helping me. Haaland’s ambitions? I don’t get the feeling that now that he has the contract he’s going to sit back and take a nap. I don’t think that it will happen. He loves to play and is a great competitor, and at the same time, in good and bad moments, he is good at immediately forgetting them, leaving them behind and focusing on the next game.”
