Lazio, top bench: nine goals from the reserves, none in Europe like the Biancocelesti

One of the secrets of Lazio’s extraordinary start to the season Marco Baroni sits next to the Biancoceleste coach. The key is the extraordinary impact that all the players in the squad manage to have, both those who start from the starting position and those who take over during the match. Indeed, if possible, those who come from the bench have an even more impact than the starters. “I don’t have starters or reserves, I come from championships where I needed everyone. I want to involve everyone” says Baroni and he is succeeding extraordinarily. Lazio have already found nine goals from the bench in these first 13 matchdays, no one has done better than the Biancocelesti and the gap to those chasing is clear (Parma, Atalanta and Verona are stuck at five). In Serie A just over 17% of goals come from the bench players, Lazio well over 30%. A surprising fact which however explains Baroni’s extraordinary work, capable of involving the whole squad.

Lazio, similar numbers also in the Europa League

Not only the comparison in Italy, but also in Europe no one can keep up with the Biancocelesti. In the wake of the Baroni gang there is only the Paris Saint Germain with eight goals scored by the substitute players, even if the percentage is decidedly lower than that of Lazio. The goals from the Paris bench are 22% of the total goals scored by Luis Enrique’s men in Ligue 1. If we also consider the Europa League, Lazio has already scored two goals in four games from the bench, for a season total of eleven goals by the successors. An extraordinary fact that Baroni wants to maintain throughout the season, trying to give space to his entire squad. As will happen on Thursday in Europe against Ludogorets, where in all likelihood there will be an almost total turnover to best manage the forces in view of a fiery month of December for Lazio between Serie A, Italian Cup and Europa League.
