Jonas fears the consequences of football: “I can’t stand for more than an hour”

Remember Jonas Gonçalvesfor everyone only Jonas, the former Brazil striker who wore the shirts of Valencia and Benfica in Europe from 2011 to 2019? For a period he was among the most interesting strikers on the international scene, to the point of even competing for the Golden Shoe. After retiring in 2019, he returned to Brazil to study and then opened a pharmacy. Football is a distant, very distant memory. In fact, it’s something that scares him.

In an interview given to the YouTube channel ‘Cartoloucos’, the former center forward admitted that he feared the consequences of football on his life: “Already now I can’t stand for more than 40 minutes or an hour. Due to various injuries for me it wasn’t that difficult to hang up my boots. Think about it, there was a year in which I had 42 Voltaren injections, everything corrodes from the inside and it doesn’t become difficult to leave soccer.

But is Jonas happy now? “I’m enjoying my new life, I came back here to be close to my father, who is 80, and my mother, who is 73”, replies he who then, analyzing his collection of t-shirts, states that one of the the most popular is one of those worn by Neymar during his time at Barça. The toughest defender you faced? “Sergio Ramos, without a doubt.”
