Jorge Britopresident of River Plate, spoke to ESPN after the Club World Cup draw, commenting on the next match between the “Millonarios” and Inter: “It could have happened and it happened. It’s very nice to face an opponent with as much history as Inter, it will be a great challenge for the future. We knew that any team that would play us would be difficult. They are the best 32 clubs in the world, all of them are complicated opponents,” said Brito.
Regarding the match against the Rayados of Monterrey, led by Martín Demichelis, Brito wanted to underline the objective approach of the team: “We look at our opponents objectively, rather than for personal reasons. Even if Martín (Demichelis)’s story is very linked to River, it will be up to the coach to analyze each match individually.”
Speaking about the transfer market in view of the tournament, the president reiterated his full agreement with coach Marcelo Gallardo: “We are totally aligned with Marcelo on what we want. He knows perfectly well what economic resources we have available, and we at the management know where we need to strengthen ourselves. The goal is to build the best team possible, not only for the Club World Cup, but for all the tournaments that await us.”
