Tottenham-Roma 2-2, the report cards: Hummels, the mistakes and the redemption. Ranieri can smile

Final result: Tottenham-Roma 2-2

Tottenham report cards (by Marco Pieracci)

Forster 7 – Forced change between the posts due to Vicario’s knockout, closing the door on Dybala. He extends without reaching Ndicka’s header. Miraculous on Mancini, he bows to Hummels.

Pedro Porro 5.5 – He loses the duel with his compatriot Angelino, giving in at the end. The crossbar splinters, a suicidal back pass.

Dragusin 6.5 – Another solid marking performance. Dovbyk wanders disoriented around the field, he doesn’t even let him see it with binoculars.

Davies 6 – Policeman of the penalty area, he clears it of every dangerous cross: he directs air traffic in an authoritative manner.

Gray 5.5 – Recycled on the left wing, he gives too much freedom to Celik. Better in forward releases: kissing cross for Solanke.

Kulusevski 7 – Successful experiment as a midfielder, he takes advantage of his insertion ability. He makes an assist, hits the post: simply devastating.

Bentancur 6 – Regular starter in the Europa League due to the maxi disqualification in the Premier League: he manages the pressure without getting upset and bludgeons when needed. From the 77th minute Bergvall

Sarr 6.5 – Hummels beats time, sending Son from the spot. Starts the doubling action, with a great throw. You find it everywhere. From 69′ Bissouma 5.5 – More confusing.

Johnson 6.5 – He starts wide to cut towards the center and hit as a true attacker, the timing is perfect to accommodate Kulusevski’s inspiration. From 69′ Maddison 5.5 – Embroidery at a slow pace.

Solanke 6 – Atypical first striker, he engages Svilar in an acrobatic turn and hits the crossbar in a twist. It fails on Roma’s equalizer.

They are 6 – Cold from the spot, he keeps his nerve to wrongfoot Svilar. Goal number 166 with the Spurs, then he devours a sensational one. From 77′ Werner sv

Ange Postecoglu 5.5 – The evening immediately gets on the right track, but the draw undermines some certainties: it keeps Roma in the game and pays the price. The changes don’t turn out to be right.

Roma’s report cards (edited by Raimondo De Magistris)

Svilar 6.5 – Conceded two goals, but avoided (at least) as many: positive performance

Left-handed 6 – With Son as an opponent the evening is complicated. He gets by as best he can, professionally.

Hummels 6 – Ready to go and give Tottenham a penalty, he was also responsible for the 2-1 goal when he let Kulusevski escape without putting up any resistance. He is still far from his best form, but for the first time since he wore the Giallorossi shirt he doesn’t look like a fish out of water and when his leadership is needed in the second half he doesn’t hold back. Indeed, he goes further by maliciously scoring the 2-2 goal.

N’Dicka 7 – Even as a left wing player, he confirms himself as Roma’s most reliable defender. His break on the goal that made the momentary 1-1 was perfect.

Celik 6.5 – With Mancini behind him he can attack the flank continuously and does it quite well, with unusual precision. On a personal level, it is one of his best performances with the Giallorossi shirt. From the 65th Zalewski 6 – It gives continuity to Celik’s performance.

Paredes 6 – Returning to the center of the village with the arrival of Claudio Ranieri, he allows himself some errors but his personality on such a hot pitch is a factor.

Kone 6 – Tonight in the middle of the field less dominant than usual, but still no demerits. In the 67th minute he misses a penalty one movement: he kicks from the height of the spot, he should have at least hit the goal.

Angelino 6.5 – There is a big flaw in his game, namely the delay in marking the 2-1 goal. Otherwise, however, the Spaniard’s performance was brilliant. As the best on the pitch. In the 59th minute he would have deserved the goal, but the ball hit the crossbar after his conclusion.

Dybala 7 – He only has one half in his legs, but that’s enough to reiterate why Roma just can’t give up on the Argentinian. The equalizer was auspicious with his free kick, El Shaarawy also served a delicious ball for the 1-2 goal: a shame for the millimetric offside position of the Pharaoh. From the 46th Soulé 5.5 – A couple of isolated ideas and nothing more.

El Shaarawy 6.5 – Epee and foil. He puts in a performance of desire and decent quality in both phases of the game. The goal would have been the icing on the cake. From the 69th Saelemaekers 6.5 – Good impact on the match.

Dovbyk 6 – He too had a goal disallowed for a millimetric offside position. He keeps Tottenham’s centre-backs busy.

Claudio Ranieri 7.5 – This 3-4-2-1 is the basis on which to start again. In his second on the Giallorossi bench, he centers the game system around which the future team will be built. There are still many aspects to work on and it’s not a small detail, but the character has finally been revised. The desire to all fight together. Rome has seen itself again.
