The past few weeks haven’t been easy for Rafael Leaowho had effectively lost his starting place in Milan. Now, however, everything is back to “normal” and the Portuguese is once again the driving force that has often been decisive in recent seasons. After a few consecutive benches, here’s the turning point: as he highlighted this morning La Gazzetta dello Sportthis came at the Santiago Bernabéu against Real Madrid, a match in which the AC Milan number 10 showed great things and gave the assist for Reijnders’ final 3-1. From that day, came the brace against Cagliari and the goal against Slovan Bratislava.
The Fonseca cure
Compared to a few weeks ago, today Leao takes the field with the right attitude, also thanks to Fonseca’s “care” which evidently helped. Now Rafa proves that he is a decisive footballer, but also a more complete one: he dribbles, scores, but also helps his teammates with some running backwards when needed. On Tuesday, the Portuguese left the pitch with some physical discomfort, but fortunately his condition is not a cause for concern and on Saturday in Empoli he should be a regular starter on the left.
Last step of growth
For someone with his potential, the four goals scored so far (three in the league and one in the Champions League) are few, but the month of November was undoubtedly very positive and gives hope for the future. It is clear that something has clicked in the former Lille player’s head and, if this continues, it will be impossible for Fonseca to give up this Leao. The hope at Milanello is that it is finally the right time for Rafa to take the last step of growth: from great player to champion.
