Cosmi’s analysis of the Serie A matchday: “Milan-Juve was very bad. Unprecedented championship”

Serse Cosmi took stock of the thirteenth matchday of Serie A on ‘Radio Serie A’. A third of the way through the season, there are five teams at the top with just two points with Juventus having lost some ground after the last draw: “It’s a new championship, we’re now at the thirteenth day… At the beginning there may be a crowd, but here we continue along this wavelength. Then they are all convincing victories: Napoli, by beating Roma, remained first in ranking, Inter buried Hellas in one half despite some top-level players being out. Atalanta, even if they have some small breaks during the match, then immediately return to important levels. They have great offensive qualities, Ederson is also there it hit the mark and then after Cancellieri’s goal he responded with great mental solidity. Lazio beat Bologna 3-0: it is true that the Italian team played part of the match with ten men, but Lazio are very well, they took advantage of it and Zaccagni has great form. Fiorentina came away from Como with an important 2-0. They are all going at an incredible pace with their goals and performances.

And in yet another passage: “Milan-Juve was a very bad match, perhaps it went better for Juve who drew away and gained a point in Milan. But there couldn’t have been such a bad match: Milan are now already several points behind from five- six teams and therefore must immediately kick into high gear and last for a long time, otherwise there is a risk of not reaching the top of the championship.”

In the next round, there will be Fiorentina-Inter: “It wasn’t necessary, these two teams had put the right gear and inevitably for one of the two it stops and maybe Juventus can get back in. So far the championship has shown that the less strong teams have more or less always lost, but ours is a championship which slowly transforms. It’s a shame that Fiorentina in a year like this has to play in a stadium like this, it reminds me of Bagnoli’s Genoa… Fiorentina experienced a situation like this in 1990, it’s the only aspect negative in a totally positive start”.

Finally, one more analysis on Milan: “Milan was born under several very particular choices. The focus was on a coach who, according to the Rossoneri managers, can represent the style that Milan has always had: this is a particular thing, when you talk about playing style you face a very dangerous topic. Football is made up of what you would like to communicate to others, but above all of results. Some initial defeats but above all some performances were full of doubts, we wondered if this team could compete at a high level. Then the derby has changed the scenario a bit, but subsequently there there were other empty passes, some off-field situations and a whole series of situations which for those who know football are not auspicious.”
