George Weah: “Timothy couldn’t say no to Juventus. Milan? I had talked about it with Maldini…”

Milan-Juventus, who to support? George Weah has no doubts: “I will support Juve”. The former striker speaks to Republic directly from Ghana, where he is on one of his missions as a politician: after having been president of Liberia for six years, he is now a senator and leader of Democratic Change, the opposition party. “I have been a Juventus fan since I was a child: I imitated Platini’s free kicks, I dreamed of playing in Turin but you couldn’t say no to the Rossoneri. I will support Juve. Because it is my favorite team and because Timothy plays there.”

The former AC Milan striker talks about the young Weah: “I had talked about Timo with Maldini, there was the possibility of him going to Milan, but it didn’t materialise. When my son mentioned Juve to me, I told him not to hesitate even for a moment. We discussed it with the mother and manager and we all agreed: we couldn’t say no to an opportunity that millions of kids dream of but that only a few have, it’s the right team for him.”

Appointment for tonight at San Siro. “I would like it to be a good match. If Juve wins I’m happy, if Milan wins I’m not one hundred percent happy but a little yes, because Milan have done a lot for me.”
