The FIGC Federal Council, at the request of the Lega Serie A, has given the green light for the opening of an additional transfer window scheduled from 1 to 10 June 2025linked to the participation of Juve and Inter in the new Club World Cup, scheduled from 15 June to 13 July 2025 in the United States. In the new negotiation session all clubs will have the opportunity to register new players.
But not only that. During today’s Federal Council, and after the approval of the CONI National Council of the Federal Statute, President Gabriele Gravina informed the Council of the decision to convene the Assembly for the renewal of the positions on February 3rd: “We have published the electoral regulations which also take into account the statutory changes that were approved in the Assembly of 4 November – the words of President Gravina reported by the official channels of the FIGC -, with CONI demonstrating our correct application of the rules statutory provisions and general principles approved the new statute”.
Regarding a possible re-nomination, Gravina reiterated this in the post-Council press conference as there is “a very open discussion taking place, inspired by the principles of democracy. I will draw conclusions from these talks and subsequently communicate the decision. I am aware that I have very important numbers, but it remains to be understood whether there are the conditions to guide the Federation with a different serenity and with a prospective plan for Italian football. They can choose, we must understand.” Among the components there is also the Serie A League: “What was requested by some Serie A clubs in terms of autonomy has been recognized by us, despite the fact that it was not included in any legislative decree. I continue to repeat that this is not the time for conflict , but of projects”.
The decisions of the Federal Council.
National Licenses. In his information, the General Secretary Marco Brunelli illustrated the general lines for the definition of the National Licenses manual for the 2025/26 season, with the aim of bringing it for approval at the Federal Council meeting next December. In the meantime, starting next week the technical tables will be convened to delve deeper into the individual points. “We are starting to plan a new model of National Licenses – continued Gravina – which will follow that of the current sports season but with innovations that will have a huge impact in terms of management control”.
Transfer window in June. Taking into account the 2025 edition of the FIFA Club World Cup, at the request of the Lega Serie A and pending the definition of the specific regulation, it was also decided to authorize a further transfer window from 1 to 10 June 2025.
Regulatory news. Following the request sent by the FIGC to the IFAB last 22 August to be able to start some experiments with new rules of the game, at the request of Serie A and having heard the opinion of the AIA, the Council decided to experiment in the men’s Primavera 1 Championship ( starting from the beginning of the second half) to restart the game with a throw-in at the edge of the area (16 meter line) as a sanction for the goalkeeper’s prolonged retention of the ball. “This is just one of the proposals presented by the FIGC to the IFAB – underlined Gravina -. Among the others, presented last August, there are also the application of the effective time, the adoption of Football Video Support in the national championships with a television production of at least three cameras, the possibility for the referees to explain their decisions via the giant screens of the stadium, the VAR on call, our old ‘ball'”.
Women’s competitions. After a discussion between the Professional Women’s Serie A Division and Club Italia, in consideration of the international calendar and the commitments of the players involved in the national competitions, to ensure the best preparation of the athletes for the next European Championship, the program of the second phase of the championship and the Italian Cup, bringing forward the end of the same by a week.
