Rocco Commisso, president of Fiorentinagave a long interview to the newspaper The Nation. Below are some of the main steps.
The purple president expresses his closeness to the Florentines despite the physical distancefrom New York. A management that implies trust in those who are delegated to make things go smoothly even without him: “I trust my collaborators. Their values are mine and I am convinced that they will always carry forward my ideas”. After reiterating that the objective remains the same as in recent years (“Do better than last year”) he outlines the path to follow: “I am very happy with the ranking and it is one of the best moments. But we must continue on this path without being satisfied At the moment we haven’t done anything. We want to try to do something special, all together and one step at a time.” Maybe moving on from the January transfer window? The Viola president replies: “If the operation is good, I am ready to intervene. If we have to make an effort we will. But let’s move forward one day at a time. We are there and we want to stay there and I would like to give Florence something that they will remember forever “.
He then goes into detail about the team: “After Athens we took, together with Ferrari and Pradè, the decision that seemed the right one. I thanked Italiano for the great work done, then the choice of Palladino seemed the right one. A great worker who just needed time. And today that choice seems to have been the right one.” And again: “We were criticized for the sales, but with that money eleven new players arrived. We are not there by chance, let’s hope it lasts.” On the strong Italian hues in the purple rose, Commisso adds: “Like all Italian Americans I have a strong sense of belonging to the national team. I have always wanted more Italians, perhaps those who grew up at Viola Park like Commisso”.
Therefore, the importance of figures such as that of his wife Catherine or the late Joe Barone was reiterated for himfocuses on the details of the stadium-themed discussions with the new mayor of Florence, Sara Funaro: “I’ve met her a couple of times. She seems to want to work hard and without making too many announcements. A pleasant acquaintance.” And on regrets: “The stadium is my biggest. Now with the mayor we are trying to find solutions that will allow Florence to have a stadium, even if it is not new, it can at least be modern and functional. I am willing to evaluate any investments, but I need to have certainty and all the information on the work they are doing now and on everything that is missing, but in any case I want total control”.
