Luka Romero was supposed to be a teenage phenomenon. One of those generational talents that changes the team where he arrives. And this is why Lazio had placed a strong bet on him, with the awareness and idea that he could make it big at the age of seventeen. Instead, Romero did not make the evolutionary step, despite making eight appearances three years ago: in the following season he took the step of the shrimp, playing only six and expiring, on a free transfer, choosing Milan. One could have thought of a change of direction in the hope of growing, but instead he only made four appearances for the Rossoneri and then the loan to Almeria, who were practically already relegated.
The novelty effect did him good, despite being in a club with very serious problems. Thirteen appearances and three goals which did not earn him redemption, but at least a call from Alaves, again in the Spanish La Liga. A step that would seem decisive to finally launch himself at high levels, but the start of the season certainly wasn’t the best: 262 minutes in 6 appearances, with 7 benches in the last 9 without even entering the pitch. In short, not very well, net of the transition from Serie A, which has historically not been kind to younger players, to La Liga which launches several very young players every year.
So there is always the glimmer of hope for improvement, for growth. But every season that passes he finds himself faced with old problems, especially without those who are aiming for it without ifs or buts. Luka Romero turns 20 today.
