During the press conference at the end of Italy-France 1-3, the coach of the French national team Didier Deschamps commented on the boos of many fans present in the San Siro stands at the time of the French anthem: “Was it a victory for French pride? Yes, especially for those who play in Italy. Unfortunately now it is fashionable to whistle the national anthem, luckily the players had the idea to applaud. I don’t know why, there is great respect between the Italians and the French. Today I think we were superior and deserved the victory.”
Then in another passage about the match he added: “We did many good things with the attacking trident, I made many changes to be able to see all the players. Winning here is always a pride, we put in a great performance, now we are first in the group, it was an excellent evening. The criticisms? You can write what you want, I have elements, I’m within the group, I try to have objectives. I know there are very high expectations, but the players always respond.”
And again: “I’ve been coach for 12 years, of course there are people who are a little tired of seeing my head, but the only thing that matters are my players. Now they are younger and we have to accompany them a little more: they have quality and we can work on this quality.”
