Ternana, Abate: “The derby raised awareness. We must grow forward”

Internal challenge against Lucchese tomorrow for the Ternana Of Ignazio Abate. These are the words of the technician Fere in the usual press conference on the eve (source TernanaNews): “The draw in the derby? We have the same feelings as after the match: regret for not having won, but great awareness. We were masters of the game for the entire 90 minutes. Creating three important goal opportunities against a well-organised Perugia is not from everyone. It is rare to see a derby in which one team dominates so much, but unfortunately we were unable to deliver. Perugia remains a strong team, but we demonstrated our quality.”

Despite controlling the match, Abate identified the main room for improvement in the offensive details: “Unlocking a closed defense is not easy, especially when you have 20 players in one half of the pitch. We worked well in the setup phase, but we need to be more incisive in the last 20 metres, attack the spaces better and materialize the opportunities created. The performance was there, now we need to refine the finishing.”

With the derby draw now behind us, Ternana is focusing on the next match against Lucchese. Abate preaches maximum attention: “Every match is complicated, each hides pitfalls. Lucchese is a wounded team, but we don’t know how they will face the match. I want to see the same mastery shown against Perugia again, combined with a compact defense and constant aggression Teams that play well have a better chance of winning, and that will be our approach.”

Abate also wanted to involve the fans, underlining the importance of their support: “The match against Lucchese will not be linear, there will be difficult moments. It is precisely in those situations that the support of the public can make the difference. Against Spal it stadium dragged us and I want to see the same enthusiasm again. These guys deserve all the support possible.”
