Danilo Luiz da Silva, known simply as Danilo says goodbye to Juventus. AND official in fact the termination of the contract of the Brazilian born in 1991. Tomorrow morning, at 10, with a private flight from Caselle, he will return to Brazil where he will sign a two-year contract with Flamengo, thus saying goodbye to Italy and more generally to the Europe of football after 13 years. This is the statement from Juventus: “Danilo Luiz da Silva and Juventus say goodbye: the paths of the Brazilian defender and the Juventus club part ways after five and a half years spent together. The consensual resolution is official. 213 appearances embellished by nine goals, a Scudetto, an Italian Super Cup and two Italian Cups – the last one lifted as captain in Rome last May Danilo has always been an example of professionalism and commitment, since his debut with a goal against Napoli 31 August 2019, until the last match played in black and white, against Venezia, on 14 December 2024. Danilo has renounced his severance pay, he will only receive his salary for January, in fact his last month as a Juventus member. “Dear Bianconeri, I don’t even know where to start. I knew that this day would come sooner than later, but you’re never ready to say goodbye. Five and a half years have passed but for me it’s as if it had been a whole life. It’s never easy to separate from a love and a place that has given me so much, from a shirt that made me feel great emotions, from a club and a history that made me rediscover values that have accompanied me throughout my career”, some of the words with which the defender he greeted Juventus via social media (full text here).
Juventus and beyond, Danilo’s career
Porto was the first to focus on the 1991 class, who took him from Santos in 2012. After three seasons in Portugal, his experience at Real Madrid began, which lasted from 2015 to 2017, with Danilo being used 56 times in total, in all competitions, in which he scored three goals. Then the move to Manchester City, with 60 appearances and four goals, until arriving at Juventus, for what was the longest spell at a European club. The Brazilian made 213 appearances for Juventus and scored 9 goals: in the 2023-2024 season he was definitively promoted to captain of Juventus, and in doing so the Brazilian became – with the exception of the natives Monti and Sivori – the first foreign captain in the history of Turin club. In this capacity, at the end of the season he lifted the Italian Cup, his second in his career, after the 0-1 victory over Atalanta in the final in Rome. The change on the bench between Allegri and Thiago Motta last summer led Danilo to gradually slip back in the hierarchies of the Juventus defensive department. In his career, the defender has won a Copa Libertadores and a Paulista championship in 2011 with Santos, two championships and two super cups in Portugal with Porto, a Spanish La Liga, a European Super Cup, a Club World Cup and two Champions Leagues with Real Madrid. Furthermore, he also won practically everything with Manchester City: two Premier Leagues, two English League Cups, an FA Cup, a Community Shield. Symbol of the green and gold national team
With Brazil, Danilo has 65 appearances for the senior national team, as well as various appearances between Brazil U20 and the Olympic national team. He boasts a South American U20 championship, a World U20 championship and an Olympic silver (London 2012). In September 2011 he was called up for the first time by Mano Menezes, then coach of the senior national team, making his debut as a starter in the match against historic rival Argentina. On 19 November 2019 he scored his first goal with the Selecao, in the 3-0 friendly win against South Korea. With the start of Dorival Junior’s technical cycle, for the 2024 Copa America he was appointed captain of the green and gold national team .
