Liverpool-Manchester United at risk of postponement: yesterday snowstorm, possible frost today

The big match scheduled at Anfield today at 5.30pm risks being cancelled. There meteorological disturbance which is hitting the United Kingdom is affecting the sporting calendar of the weekend and after the weather warning launched yesterday, due to the heavy snowfalls taking place throughout the north west of England, Liverpool-Manchester United could be postponed due to bad weather.

This morning, Liverpool City Council met to take stock of the situation. It continued to snow in the city and rain, even freezing, is expected in the next few hours. The fears concern the safety of the flood of fans who will move in the areas adjacent to the Anfield stadium and along the transport network. A decision is expected – reports Sky Sport – by 1pm Italian time (12pm local time), given that numerous matches in lower categories have already been postponed to a later date.

At this stage it is expected that the match will take place as normal and every effort will be made to ensure this happens. A new safety meeting will take place at midday to assess conditions.
