The Bordeauxrelegated to National 2 following recent administrative events, could soon change ownership. As reported by the French newspaper South-West, Jacques-Henri Eyraudformer president of Olympique Marseille, reportedly contacted the current owner of Girondins, Gérard Lopez, last December to gather information on the conditions of a possible takeover of the club. Eyraud, a controversial figure in the French football scene, would have acted on behalf of Oliver Khanformer German football legend and goalkeeper, who served as director and executive chairman of Bayern Munich until May 2023.
Since leaving Bayern, Kahn has openly expressed his desire to become a club owner. Bordeaux represents an interesting opportunity for the former goalkeeper, who faced Girondins as a player in the 1996 UEFA Cup final. According to Sud-Ouest, Kahn is in charge of aggregating the necessary funds for the acquisition, while Eyraud, already in contact with the municipality of Bordeaux, is taking care of the initial approaches.
The next few weeks will be decisive for the future of one of the historic clubs of French football. The hope is that a solution can be found that can guarantee stability and sporting relaunch for the Girondins.
