The complaint of the former Genoa and Avellino player Omeonga: “Beaten and humiliated by the Italian police”

He is currently in the force of the Israelis of Bnei Sakhnin, but Stephane Omeonga He has a footballing background in Italy, where he played for Avellino, Genoa and finally Pescara. And just before leaving the Bel Paese, when he was at the Rome airport to return to Israel, he was apparently the victim of a beating by the police, which he reported yesterday via social media. This is his post Instagram:

On December 25, I was a victim of police brutality.
During a flight between Rome and Tel Aviv, after boarding the plane and taking my seat, a steward approached me about an alleged problem with my documents and asked me to leave the plane. Confident of the validity of my documents, I calmly asked him what kind of problem.
They called the police, I was handcuffed and forcibly removed from the plane. Once outside the plane, out of sight of the witnesses, the police violently threw me to the ground, beat me, and one of them pressed his knee against my head.
I was then taken to the airport in a police vehicle, handcuffed like a criminal. An ambulance arrived, but in a state of shock, I was unable to answer the doctors’ questions. Shortly after, I heard on the police car radio: ‘He has refused medical treatment; everything is fine. ‘ This was completely untrue, I asked them to take me in the ambulance with them scared of what the police might do to me.
Afterwards, I was placed in a gray room, without food or water, and left in a state of total humiliation for several hours. Upon my release, I learned that a police officer had filed charges against me for injuries allegedly caused during the arrest, even though I was handcuffed. Furthermore, to this day, I have not received any justification for my arrest.
As a human being and as a father, I cannot tolerate any form of discrimination. This arrest is just the visible tip of the iceberg. Many people who look like me can’t find jobs, don’t have access to housing, or can’t participate in the sports they love, simply because they are black.
We must stand together and raise our voices to educate those around us – colleagues, neighbors and friends – about this issue that plagues our society and hinders its progress.

Peace”.
