Paulo Fonseca’s experience at Milan has come to an end. This morning the Rossoneri club officially announced the dismissal of the Portuguese coach which leaves the team in eighth place in the standings and 8 points behind the Champions League, as well as 13 from the top. This is in fact the last Rossoneri day for Fonseca who, as evidenced by the video, has arrived in these minutes at the Milanello sports center for the last time: here he will collect the last things and leave room for Sergio Conceicao who will settle in starting since the afternoon.
Paulo Fonseca is no longer the Milan coach: the press release
The dismissal, communicated to the Portuguese coach himself late yesterday evening after the draw against Roma, was ratified this morning. Here is the note from the Rossoneri club: “AC Milan officially announces that it has relieved Paulo Fonseca of his role as coach of the men’s first team. The Club thanks Paulo for his great professionalism and wishes him the best for the future“.
Fonseca’s numbers at Milan
Fonseca was appointed Milan manager on 13 June 2024 with a three-year contract starting from 1 July. During his management, Milan showed mixed performance. In the league, the team achieved 27 points in 17 games, placing them in eighth place, 14 points from the top and eight points from the Champions League zone. Despite some prestigious victories, such as the one in the derby against Inter on 22 September, which ended a series of six consecutive defeats against the city, the team struggled to find consistency in results. In the Champions League he also had a complicated start, but then he recovered (12 points in 6 matches, the result of 4 victories and two defeats, with 12th place in the single group).
