Paolo Cannavaro gave an interview to the microphones of ‘Radio Serie A’ and focused at length on his first adventure as first coach, that of Pro Vercelli: “It was an experience that gave me a lot, unfortunately not from the point of view of results, but as an experience it also helped me a lot to step into the role of first coach in a category that experiences enormous difficulties in all three groups I like the role of coach, a lot. I already understood it from Udine and after that adventure I told my brother Fabio that I would like to pursue a career as a head coach: it’s what I like and it makes me feel good, the desire to try was also to understand if the role suited me it suits me and also the feedback received made me understand that that is my path.”
On his football philosophy: “From a mentality point of view, I always use a phrase: ‘Let’s give it before we take it’. As for football, being a young coach I was lucky enough to start with the long ball and then I finished with my longest pass which was of fifteen metres. I took more from this last part and I like to think I have eleven playmakers on the pitch. My defenders have to come out with the ball and the attackers recover it on the slide, that’s my mentality.”
And finally: “In this adventure in Vercelli I dedicated what I had to to my players, at the end of training I liked to do individual work on some players. Unfortunately today young players already arrive with important tactical knowledge, but we need to work a lot on individual technique, on race”.
