Napoli, the former Calaiò: “Neres like Vinicius, but it is not the alternative to Kvaratskhelia”

Emanuele Calaiòprotagonist of Napoli’s double promotion from Serie C to the top category, praises the Neapolitan club and David Neres during a long interview granted to The Morning.

Neres did not make Kvara regret.
“The Brazilian played an excellent match in Udine, very tidy: he knew when to play simple and when to accelerate. It was an extremely diligent performance. However, I don’t see him as a direct alternative to the Georgian talent. Kvara is an extraordinary player, of absolute value. Maybe this year he has been a little inconsistent, but he remains essential. I think he feels the pressure of always having to raise the level and solve the games, which sometimes leads him to force the plays a little too much.”

With Kvara injured, however, it was Neres’ turn.
“Personally I see Neres as more suited to the role of right winger, instead of Politano, because there he is able to return better with his strong foot. But think of a trident with Neres, Lukaku and Kvara: it would have extraordinary offensive potential.”

Are there any players you would compare him to?
“Given the necessary proportions, I would say Vinicius Jr. Some of Neres’ movements and accelerations are reminiscent of the Real Madrid star. He has that speed of legs, a low center of gravity, and when he accelerates he is difficult to stop. He takes meters from you in a few steps and, when rip, you can’t reach it anymore.”

Did Napoli make a good investment?
“Absolutely yes. This must be the season of redemption for Neres, after a very fluctuating year at Benfica. He is a player who is paid a lot, but he has everything to be the future of Napoli.”

And when will Kvara return?
“Neres still has to play. It would be a shame to leave him on the bench. We’re talking about a striker who cost 30 million euros, who has the ability to shift the balance and make the difference with his acceleration.”
