You don’t need a time machine – except for those who are younger – to remember the golden years of Bayern Munich with two of the best wingers in the world: Arjen Robben on the right, Franck Ribery on the left. When the duo left the German club in 2019, their potential successors, Kingsley Coman and Serge Gnabry, were already in the squad. When Leroy Sané was also bought from Manchester City for 50 million in 2020, Bayern managers thought they were well covered in the attacking wing positions for the next decade.
Yet, some pieces of the puzzle are destined to fall apart in the summer of 2025. Regarding this topic, the commentator of Sky Sports DE Lothar Matthaus he guaranteed: “There will definitely be changes in the winger position. There are three less than solid candidates: Coman, Gnabry and Sané. All three will not stay at Bayern next year, although I certainly won’t name names now.”
And he continued: “Certainly all three will not stay, at least one will go, maybe even two, because new names are also being evaluated for these positions in Monaco.” At the moment the number one suspect for a farewell is Leroy Sanéfor which Matthaus wanted to defend himself: “I still see his abilities. When he is fit, he will have his rhythm and gain confidence through match training, but he is still very far from that”, the gloss of the former Inter and Bayern Munich midfielder.
