Former Juve player Muratore speaks after his illness: “Today I put an end to my career as a player”

A long ordeal, given an illness, neurocytoma in the left ventricle, and the new life that is about to begin: why the former Juventus midfielder, with whom he also played in the U23 team, and Reggiana Simone Muratore said his final farewell to playing football.
This is the Instagram post through which he communicated his decision:

“3 years have passed since that day, news that came out of the blue that changed my life and that of those around me.
Neurocytoma of the left ventricle.
Moments of thoughts, questions, anger. I have never shed a tear, I have always tried to make myself seen as strong in the eyes of others, from the day of the news until the night before the surgery, in the room with my mother, the strongest woman I have ever known, when I burst into tears like a child, with the fear of never waking up again or in any case of waking up and no longer being the same as before. There were days, weeks, months, years of suffering. I had to learn to speak well, walk, run, write, read, count, it was as if I were a child again and I had to start all over again, from day 0.
There were days that I even struggled to get out of bed even though I already felt better. Today I put an end to my career as a player, I tried until the end to come back, I put in tears and sweat, but I wasn’t like before, I realized that in any case I was lucky enough to be healed and to be well.
I was lucky enough to play with extraordinary players, champions, on the pitch but above all off the pitch, and no one will ever take this away from me. I am grateful for everything I have done and achieved inside that green rectangle, together with my teammates, who later became my friends. They were magnificent years, the pitch, the locker room, the passion, they are things that are difficult to explain if you don’t experience them firsthand. First of all, I thank my family for always being by my side. Tommaso, my unique and special child who gave me the strength to carry on, and finally my friends. I thank the Juventus, Atalanta and Tondela clubs for standing by me. You learn to give importance to things when you’re one step away from losing them. Life is a wonderful gift.”
