Euro 2025, the tournament ball presented: name in Esperanto and motif inspired by the Alps

On the eve of the group draw for the Final Phase of UEFA Women’s EURO 2025, scheduled for this evening in Lausanne, Adidas unveils the official ball of the tournament: is KONEKTIS, ‘connected’ in Esperanto, to reiterate the opportunity to create connections between fans thanks to the reduced distances of the eight host cities (Basel, Bern, Geneva, Zurich, St. Gallen, Lucerne, Sion and Thun). The design celebrates Switzerland with bold graphics, which recall the natural and architectural landscape.

Set against a pearlescent background, the ball features jagged block patterns in red, blue, purple, orange and green, inspired by the silhouette of the Alps. Each panel also incorporates custom graphics representing the host cities’ iconic landmarksincluding Basel City Hall, Bern Clock Tower, Geneva Le Jet d’Eau, Lucerne Chapel Bridge, St. Gallen Cathedral, Sion Tourbillon Castle, Thun Castle and the ‘Opernhaus Zürich.

KONEKTIS has been designed to ensure greater precision of play thanks to the use of the PRECISIONSHELL, a 20-piece panel shape with strategically placed raised grooves on the outer shell of the ball. The shape has been meticulously researched and tested in the laboratory and on the field to evaluate the airflow over the ball, for maximum precision. The performance benefits continue with CTR-CORE, a system designed to ensure precision and consistency in flight. This system helps the ball maintain its shape and optimal air pressure, supporting fast and precise play.

For the first time in this tournament, the ball integrates adidas’ Connected Ball Technology: a suspension system in the center of the ball hosts and stabilizes a 500Hz IMU (Inertial Measurement Unit) motion sensor that provides data on the ball’s movements in time real, sending information to match officials during the match. When combined with player location data and artificial intelligence, it enables faster and more accurate decisions. Developed in collaboration with Kinexon, this technology also helps VAR identify every single touch of the ball, reducing the time needed to resolve incidents of handball or penalties.

“We are very proud – he commented Solène Störmannadidas Global Category Director Football Hardware – to supply the official match balls for such an important competition. KONEKTIS, derived from the Esperanto word meaning ‘connected’, aims to unite players and fans with the host country, as only football can do. From a technology perspective, we are incredibly excited to see adidas’ Connected Ball Technology used for the first time at the UEFA Women’s EURO. Innovation is at the heart of everything we do as a brand, and this is an example of our commitment to continuous improvement to enhance the sporting experience for fans and players.”

“UEFA Women’s EURO 2025 – he added Nadine KesslerUEFA Managing Director, Women’s Football – will be a further accelerator in the unstoppable growth of women’s football, offering a truly connected competition experience for all participants. KONEKTIS perfectly embodies this spirit, and seeing adidas’ Connected Ball Technology on the court for the first time will be a pivotal moment, reflecting our collective commitment to ongoing excellence in every aspect of the tournament.”

For the official launch of the ball, adidas brought the captain of the Swiss national team, Lia Wältiat the Ottmar Hitzfeld Arena in the mountain village of Gspon for a unique training session (the full launch video can be seen on adidas’ social channels: @adidasfootball). Perched in the Swiss Alps at a height of 2,000 meters above sea level, the stadium is officially the highest football ground in Europe. “Switzerland – said Wälti – means home, family and peace to me. It is incredible to host a tournament in my country. As a child I would never have dreamed of something like this, and it is wonderful to be able to play in front of my family, my friends and to our fans.”

The official KONEKTIS match ball supports adidas’ commitment to contribute 1% of net sales to the Common Goal programme, which funds initiatives for lasting social change in disadvantaged communities, promoting a better and more inclusive future through football.
