Lecco, Volpe: “To be reduced to the referee would be reductive, I’ll put my face there for everyone”

Gennaro Volpecoach of Lecco, commented thus in the press conference on the match lost 5-2 against Atalanta U23: “Reducing oneself to the referee would be… simplistic – the words reported by LeccoChannelNews.it -. I put my face to it for everyone, I don’t want to look for alibis: when you can’t coach and you have to manage you struggle, I can blame little on the 13 who took to the pitch today. I don’t have substitutions and you can’t take a breather, when you don’t have alternatives and choices it becomes complicated: Atalanta are strong and we were punished excessively, we had a good first half creating a lot and achieving little unlike them. I knew that the game could be reopened because they always play and that’s how it went, then we put our best foot forward. We still have a game to face with the right choice.

We didn’t want to leave any depth, it was done in a confusing and extreme way. In the last half hour we lost our bearings and we can’t do either that or waste time. If we don’t stay in the game for 90 minutes then what happened happens. We can’t handle one against one in an open field, they’ll kill us and this is even more true for Atalanta who have an out of class engine. We cannot lose our heads and we are fragile about this: the team started with an objective and the ranking position today was probably the one not considered. The head is heavy, but we’re in it and if we don’t start struggling then it becomes tough: there are problems to solve, first and foremost the numerical one because training with 13 men is impractical for various reasons. Let’s play this last game, but clearly we need to intervene because then it becomes complicated.

Market? There are roles that require interventions, in almost all departments. We will absolutely have to do something in light of injuries that are and will be long-term: I hope I don’t find myself like this again after the restart, I want to work and in this situation it would be difficult for anyone to be able to make an impact.”
