On 10 December 2006, at the Olympic stadium, there is the derby. Lazio hosts Romawith the Giallorossi arriving at the match as the underdogs. Before the start of the race there is a minute of silence for the death of Alberto D’Aguanno, which happened the day before. There are sixty-one thousand spectators in the stands who watch a fairly slow first half, which starts off dull. So the first shot on goal goes to Totti, then Perrotta. Lazio responds with Mauri and Cribari, who engages the Brazilian Doni.
It is the prelude to the goal that arrives shortly after, when Ledesma scores with a shot from distance, one nil with which the first half ends. The second half opens with a joke from Pandev on Mexes, with the Macedonian stealing the ball and tackling Doni, who knocks him down. After some hesitation Rosetti concedes the penalty and the yellow to Doni, even though there had previously been time to glimpse the red. Oddo scores for 2-0, then rounds Mutarelli further.
After the match there is a big celebration, with Delio Rossi – who to keep faith with a promise made to Sister Paola – throws himself into the large fountain on the Janiculum.
