Borussia Dortmund coach Nuri Sahin has announced a “serious injury” to Niklas Süle at the start of this afternoon’s press conference, on the eve of the match against Barcelona (Wednesday, 9pm kick-off): “Niki will be out for a few months”. It is the “same injury” from October, therefore a partial lesion of the syndesmosis: “It is really an incredibly unfortunate thing that someone hit the same area twice, without wanting to blame anyone.”
Süle had played a good game against Gladbach and had to leave the pitch in the 84th minute after feeling pain in his right foot. When he was replaced in the final minutes of Saturday night’s match, news of a serious injury was already circulating: Niklas Süle will be a long-term absence for Borussia, now there is also certainty. “I spoke to Niki last night,” Sahin said. “We need to let the diagnosis stabilize before making decisions” It is not yet clear whether the defender will be treated conservatively or whether he will have to undergo surgery.
