Benatia new role in Marseille: the former Roma and Juventus player will become sporting director

Mehdi Benatia will become the new sporting director of Marseille. To confirm the RMC Sport rumours, the former defender will be appointed sporting director and his contract – only the details are missing, but the general agreement has already been reached – will be closely linked to that of Roberto De Zerbi, at the helm of OM for another two and a half years.

Consultant to the management and to Pablo Longoria, Benatia will play a more central role: “If I look at the market it’s a satisfaction. Bringing Roberto De Zerbi to Marseille was great. I was watching Italy-France, I saw Adrien Rabiot’s brace and I tell myself that he plays in Marseille. Take Denmark against Spain, I see Hojbjerg, he is the captain. They are strong guys, we have laid the first stone players, we share tasks based on relationships. When a player arrives, we often study three-four solutions in advance. We use Pablo’s network (Longoria, ed.), mine the coach,” he said in a recent interview.
