Newcastle could sell some big players to comply with the Premier League’s Financial Fair Play. In the summer, the club already had to sell Elliot Anderson (to Nottingham Forest for 41 million) and Yankuba Minteh (to Brighton for 35 million) in order to fall within the required parameters, thus avoiding a points deduction.
In this regard, manager Eddie Howe admitted that he “cannot guarantee” that the club will not sell other players in the January transfer window, to comply with the Premier League’s spending rules: “The days of teams not selling players, unless the revenue streams were that great, are over. So I think our revenue streams are not where we want them to be.”
And again: “We are trying to develop them, so I think it will be essential to trade in and out. Hopefully they won’t be players that we will be forced to sell as has already happened with a couple of days of deadlines coming up.”
Howe concludes: “I hope it’s a more stable environment, but you can’t guarantee anything. Nothing is absolutely fixed and there will be a lot of twists and turns.” Among the players in the sights of the big names there is above all Bruno Guimaraes. The Brazilian, who arrived in January 2022 from Lyon for 42 million, has ended up in the sights of Manchester City, looking for reinforcements in midfield.
