Davide Calabria, captain who will not be confirmed. It expires in June

No one is a prophet in their homeland, or almost none. Not even Davide Calabriadefender owned by Milan, who grew up with the Rossoneri from the youth team, until becoming the captain. Maybe not the symbol, because it has always been contested by its own fans – the same ones who complained about De Sciglio – and who haven’t had a real idol coming from the sector since the days of Maldini and Costacurta. Perhaps this is precisely the paradigm: those who rise to the first team as they grow up are underestimated, even if over the years they manage to prove themselves to be of a reasonable level.

Calabria is not Cafù or Thuram. However, in his eleven seasons with Milan he played 264 matches in the championship, Champions League, Europa League and Italian Cup, also reaching the national team. For every mistake, however, there is an underlining, with the feeling that he is never fully in charge. This summer Emerson Royal arrived and, in fact, took his place away even though he wasn’t very convincing, almost as if to prove that it is better to come from outside to try to get more credit than those who are already there.

So the renewal seems far, very far away. Calabria wanted an adjustment in his salary, but Milan has no intention of offering him anything other than the salary he already receives now, around 2.5 million euros. In short, it is difficult for confirmation to arrive. Today Davide Calabria turns 28.
