Caferri: “The Giana Erminio is a bit like home. Salvation objective, then we’ll see”

TMW Radio

Lorenzo Caferriwinger of Giana Erminio, spoke within the program To All Cbroadcast on Tmw Radio.

You are returning from a 0-0 draw with Pergolettese. What game was it?
“It was a difficult, tough and physical match, against a team that was complicated to face in terms of competitiveness and intensity. In the end, however, we brought home a good point. If you can’t win, a point is always better than a defeat.”

At the moment you are equidistant between play-offs and play-outs. Do you look further ahead or further back?
“The main objective is salvation. For the moment we are in line with expectations, then based on how the season evolves we can think of something more like what happened last year. Last season we started with the goal of survival, but in the end we found a solution that allowed us to finish seventh. So far the path traced is positive and we must continue like this.”

In the cup you will also face Avellino
“It’s a beautiful match, to be faced to the fullest to make a good impression and to try to get through the round. It’s a team I’ve never faced personally and so I’m happy to be able to play this match. The first goal of the season also arrived against Pro Vercelli, which I needed to break the deadlock.”

So far you are the most used player of the entire squad. Is this an extra responsibility for you?
“I make myself available to the team, whether it’s to play one minute or ninety minutes. I’m happy with my position within the squad and now the goal is to give my best and always commit myself regardless of the role.”

What do you expect against Virtus Verona?
“It will be a difficult match because they have a difficult and small field. They are a very good team with great individuality, so we will have to stay focused until the end. Last year we won 4-0 at home, but it was a particular match in which they were down to ten men already in the first half. Not all races are like this, they are strong and gave all the teams a hard time.”

Now you have also entered the 100 Club with Giana. What does this milestone mean to you?
“Already at the beginning of the year I had reached one hundred appearances in all competitions with the Giana shirt, while now I have reached one hundred appearances in the championship. It’s a nice individual achievement, which always pleases a player. I can only thank the company that gives me this opportunity. It’s now the fourth season here, for me Giana is almost like home, I’m very happy to be here.”

Do you perceive the fact that Giana is a club where history is cultivated?
“It is perceived and it is one of the fundamental aspects of this society. In my journey over these four years I have met people who have been part of the history of Giana, such as Pinto, Marotta, Perna, Perico and Mister Chiappella. When you say that Giana is a family you are saying something true and being inside it you understand why.”

What are you growing into right now?
“An important aspect was the mental one, we grew in staying in the game until the ninetieth minute, as happened with Pergolettese. If it had been a match played a month ago we would have lost it, because we weren’t that strong mentally yet. In the last few races, however, I have seen a different mental approach. After all, during a season there are difficult moments and the great team is the one that knows how to react to these moments. In October we lost some matches even with direct competitors, even though we had some injuries. In a team like Giana everyone is needed, from the first to the last. The only medicine was work and now we have come out of it with some good victories.”

Is Padova or Vicenza the favorite in Group A?
“It’s difficult to give a favorite, they are both very strong. Vicenza is having an amazing championship, even if Padova is almost perfect. It’s a nice duel to follow, I have to congratulate both of them.”

Is the Halcyon the revelation instead?
“Yes, but there are strong category players in the squad. We must not be influenced by the fact that it is a newly promoted team, because for me it is a great team that has solidity. Nothing comes by chance, they are difficult to deal with.”

Do you have ambitions to move up the category in the future?
“There are always ambitions, because it’s impossible not to have them while practicing a sport. An athlete of any sport cannot reach a high level if he does not have the ambition to take one step further. The field will decide what I will be able to achieve, in the meantime I am focused on reaching safety with Giana.”
